Overview

With a compact design optimized for solo operation, travel, or use as a B camera, the Sony FX3 blends features from the Cinema Line and Alpha series. It delivers high-end image quality with a portable, cage-free body that includes multiple accessory mount points.

It features a 12.1MP full-frame back-illuminated Exmor R CMOS sensor (10.2MP effective for video), paired with a BIONZ XR processor to support UHD 4K up to 120fps recording with 10-bit 4:2:2 internal capture or 16-bit raw output via HDMI. Its dynamic range exceeds 15 stops, and it supports S-Cinetone, S-Log3, and HLG for creative grading and color matching.

Additional Capabilities

Capture 4K at up to 120p or 1080p at up to 240p. Output DCI 4K+ in 16-bit raw via HDMI while recording XAVC 4K and proxies internally. Cooling is maintained by a silent fan and heatsink for extended recording sessions.

The cage-free design allows direct accessory mounting. The tilting 3" LCD touchscreen offers 2.35MP resolution. Front/rear tally lights provide clear visual recording cues.

Audio and Connectivity

Use the detachable XLR handle for 2-channel XLR/TRS input, or connect via 3.5mm jack. Record up to 4 channels of 24-bit audio. Control the camera remotely via Imaging Edge Mobile or Desktop, transfer files over Wi-Fi or USB-C, or stream using Imaging Edge Webcam.

Stabilization and Shared Features

Use Catalyst Browse software for post-production stabilization using metadata. Shared features with FX6: S-Cinetone, internal fan, tally lamps, zoom lever. Shared with a7S III: 5-axis IBIS, 16-bit HDMI Raw output, ISO 80–409,600, and S-Log2.
