G Master Design
As part of Sony's renowned G Master series, this lens is engineered to deliver impressive resolution and sharpness by correcting a wide range of spherical and chromatic aberrations.
- The constant f/2.8 maximum aperture supports low-light photography and enhanced control over depth of field.
- Nano AR Coating reduces reflections, flare, and ghosting, improving contrast and color rendering in challenging lighting conditions.
- The rounded 11-blade diaphragm contributes to smooth, attractive bokeh when using shallow depth-of-field techniques.
Advanced Optical Elements
Two XA (Extreme Aspherical) elements and three conventional aspherical elements are integrated into the lens design. Their advanced surface precision helps control astigmatism, field curvature, coma, distortion, and other spherical aberrations.
Two ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass elements further reduce chromatic aberrations and color fringing, promoting improved clarity and accurate color reproduction.
Practical & Intuitive Handling
- Two Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) autofocus groups deliver fast, quiet, and precise focusing for stills and video.
- The floating focusing system separates the focusing elements into two individually controlled groups to maintain consistently clear optical performance throughout the zoom and focus ranges.
- A dedicated Focus Hold button and AF/MF switch allow immediate control over focus settings.
- Dust- and moisture-resistant construction supports shooting in challenging conditions, while rubberized control rings improve handling in colder environments.
- A fluorine coating on the front element helps prevent fingerprints and dust from adhering to the glass surface.
