32.5MP Full-Frame Sensor & DIGIC X Processing

Offering a substantial resolution increase, the R6 Mark III’s 32.5MP full-frame CMOS sensor improves sharpness, print resolution, and cropping ability. Paired with the DIGIC X processor, it delivers excellent image quality, low noise, and a broad sensitivity range while also managing continuous shooting, video recording, AF, and IBIS functions.

Continuous Shooting:

Up to 40 fps (silent electronic shutter) or 12 fps (mechanical shutter), with AF/AE readings before each frame.

Pre-Continuous Shooting:

Captures up to 20 frames prior to fully pressing the shutter to help you catch split-second action.

SCN Shooting Modes

For newcomers or anyone wanting an in-camera look without post, SCN modes adjust settings using scene-specific auto exposure:

7K Video Recording, Open Gate, and High-Speed Modes

The R6 Mark III is a highly capable video camera: record internal 7K up to 60p in 12-bit Canon RAW Light Movie. For external recording to an optional recorder, shoot 7K up to 30p in ProRes RAW.

For especially clean footage, 4K FINE uses oversampling to improve image quality in both DCI 4K and UHD 4K in the XF AVC S format.

Open Gate 3:2:

Open Gate recording in 7K 30p is available in 10-bit MP4 or 12-bit RAW, giving you more area for cropping to vertical 9:16 or other aspect ratios (1:1, 4:3, 4:5).

High-Speed / Slow Motion:

DCI 4K and UHD 4K up to 119.8p for 5× slow motion playback in a 23.98p timeline. At DCI 2K and Full HD, up to 179.8p is possible.

Audio Support:

Audio recording is supported for all resolutions and frame-rate options except in S&F mode.

Slow & Fast Motion (S&F):

Dedicated mode-dial access with control over resolution, frame rate, playback speed, and compression.

LUTs and Color Control

Canon Log 2:

Improves dynamic range and provides 15+ stops of exposure latitude for grading control.

Apply Look + LUT Registration:

Register 17-grid or 33-grid .cube LUTs as Custom Picture files and apply during recording. LUTs can be transferred via Canon Camera Connect.

14 Color Filters:

Convenient in-camera tone/color adjustments for JPEG photos or MP4 videos.

Custom Picture Menu:

Featured for the first time in an EOS 6-series camera, Register People Priority lets you register a person in-camera to prioritize them in crowded scenes—register up to 10 people.

AF Area & Recall Tools:

Four new AF area options, the ability to cancel tracking/subject detection, plus registering and recalling AF settings for easier switching.

Focus Preset via Custom Buttons:

Assign a focus preset position similar to Canon super-telephoto focus recall behavior.

Movie Servo AF Algorithm:

Borrowed from C400 and C80 for more natural autofocus pulls that resemble manual focus pulling.

8.5-Stop Sensor-Shift IBIS

Upgraded in-body stabilization compensates up to 8.5 stops at the center and 7.5 stops at the periphery for sharper handheld shooting and reduced shake in video. It benefits non-stabilized lenses and also works with lens-based IS via coordinated stabilization.

Movie Digital IS combines optical and sensor-shift methods with digital IS to help acquire steadier footage while moving.

EVF, Vari-Angle LCD, and Exposure Tools

EVF:

0.5" OLED EVF with 3.69m-dot resolution, approx. 0.76× magnification, and 100% coverage. OVF View Assist provides a more lifelike, optical-inspired view with enhanced dynamic range rendering.

Reliable, Intuitive Handling & Storage

The camera features a magnesium alloy chassis with a dust- and moisture-sealed design for inclement conditions. The shutter is tested to 500,000 cycles, matching the shutter unit used in the R5 Mark II.

The Multi-Function Shoe provides expanded accessory functionality and power delivery for select accessories (e.g., DM-E1D, EL-5, ST-E10), supports the AD-E1 adapter for legacy shoe accessories, and the camera is rated for approx. 620 shots per charge with the LP-E6P battery.
